Amazon.ca/Books in Canada First Novel Award
The Amazon.ca/Books in Canada First Novel Award is given
annually to the best first novel in English published the previous year by a
citizen or resident of Canada. Awarded since 1977, the prize has helped to
launch the careers of such internationally known novelists as Michael
Ondaatje, Joy Kogawa, W.P. Kinsella, Rohinton Mistry, Anne Michaels, and André
Alexis.

Bram Stoker Awards
The Bram Stoker Awards for Superior Achievement are awarded
annually by the Horror Writers Association, a nonprofit group dedicated to
promoting the interests of writers of horror and dark fantasy.
Coretta Scott King Awards
Commemorating the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King
Jr., and honoring his widow, Coretta Scott King, for her courage and
determination in continuing the work for peace and world brotherhood, the
Coretta Scott King Award is presented annually by a task force of the
American Library Association. Recipients are authors and illustrators of
African descent whose distinguished books promote an understanding and
appreciation of the American dream.
Edgar Awards
The Mystery Writers of America give these awards to honor the
best in mystery fiction and nonfiction produced the previous year. The
awards began in 1954 and are named in honor of Edgar Allan Poe.
Hugo Awards
The Hugo Award, also known as the Science Fiction Achievement
Award, is given annually by the World Science Fiction Society. Here's a list

James Beard Foundation/KitchenAid Book Awards
The James Beard Foundation/KitchenAid Book Awards, the oldest
recognition program for books on culinary topics in the United States, were
originally established in 1966 as the R.T. French Tastemakers Awards. After
R.T. French discontinued its funding for the program, the awards were
sponsored by a number of organizations before becoming a permanent part of
the James Beard Foundation Awards in 1990. Winners are announced each May
for original, English-language books on culinary topics published the
previous year.
Man Booker Prize Winners
The Man Booker Prize was founded in 1969 by Booker McConnell,
a multinational conglomerate company. Administered by Book Trust in the
United Kingdom, this prestigious award is given to the best full-length
novel written in English by a citizen of the U.K., the Commonwealth, Eire,
Pakistan, or South Africa.
Michael L. Printz Award for Teen Literature
The Michael L. Printz Award, first given in 2000, is an award
for a book that exemplifies literary excellence in young adult literature.
The honor was named for a Topeka, Kansas, school librarian who was a
long-time active member of the Young Adult Library Services Association.
National Academies Communication Awards
Established as part of the National Academies Keck Futures
Initiative, the National Academies Communication Awards recognize excellence
in communicating science, engineering, and medicine to the general public.
