• Art That Dares: Gay Jesus, Woman Christ, and More by Kittredge Cherry
  Art that Dares to show Jesus as gay or female has been censored or destroyed. Now for the first time these beautiful, liberating, sometimes shocking images are gathered for all to see. Packed with full-page color illustrations, this eye-opening collection features a diverse group of eleven contemporary artists who work both inside and outside the church. They present the gay Jesus, the woman Christ, and other cutting-edge Christian images. Their art respects the teachings of Jesus and frees the minds of viewers to see in new ways. Here the artists tell the stories behind their art. A lively introduction puts the images into political and historical context, exploring issues of blasphemy and artistic freedom.

• Lisa's Story: The Other Shoe by Tom Batiuk
  A story from the comic strips that will make you laugh and make you cry.
  
  In 1999, Lisa Moore, one of Funky Winkerbean's friends and a main character in the comic strip, discovered she had breast cancer. After a mastectomy and chemotherapy, Lisa was cancer free. She finished her law degree, opened a practice, and had a baby daughter, Summer. Then, in the spring of 2006 the cancer returned. Lisa's Story: The Other Shoe is a collection of both the 1999 comic strips about Lisa's initial battle with cancer and the final series that examined her struggle with the disease and its outcome.
  
  Tom Batiuk, unsure about dealing with the serious subject of cancer on the funny pages, decided to go ahead with the story line. He approached the topic with the idea that mixing humor with serious and real themes heightens the reader's interest. Lisa and husband Les faced the same physical, psychological, and social issues as anyone else dealing with the disease.
  
  Lisa's Story: The Other Shoe contains resource material on breast cancer, including early detection, information sources, support systems, and health care.

Notes

• Robin Reardon is using her Blog, to offer a series of installments using logic and facts, in the form of an open letter to humanity, to prove that the only thing wrong with being gay is how some people treat you when they find out. The Case for Acceptance presents the thinking behind Reardon’s second novel, Thinking Straight, about a gay teen who is sent to a Christian de-programming center to straighten him out.
