About the author
Isabel Miller was the pen name of Alma Routsong, a Michigan-born novelist who first published under her own name before choosing a new byline for her lesbian fiction. Patience & Sarah began as A Place for Us, a small-press book that found a lasting readership through word of mouth and became a landmark of lesbian historical fiction. Her work invites readers to follow the intimate routes by which private histories become shared reading.
