About the author
Lawrence Durrell was an English novelist, poet, dramatist, and travel writer born in India and shaped by a life of movement around the Mediterranean. His fiction treats place as an active force in memory, desire, and political history. The Alexandria Quartet made that approach famous through four novels that revisit overlapping events from different points of view; his later work continued to test how narrative changes when the angle of vision shifts.
