About the author
Robert Musil was an Austrian novelist, essayist, and dramatist trained first as an engineer. His fiction brings a cool analytical eye to adolescence, authority, desire, and the unstable ideas by which people explain themselves. The Confusions of Young Törless, his first novel, draws on his experience at a military school; his unfinished modernist project The Man Without Qualities later widened that inquiry to an entire society.
