A native of Asheville, North
Carolina, Gavin Geoffrey Dillard published his first two books of
poetry while yet in high school. He has since published ten others,
two anthologies, and his infamous Hollywood tell-all,
In The Flesh: Undressing for Success. Also known as "the Naked Poet", his
poems have been recorded by James Earl Jones and published in
periodicals worldwide.
The author of dozens of songs and
several musicals, Gavin has written songs with and for such luminaries
as Sam Harris, Jake Heggie, Donna Summer, Peter Allen, Chanticleer and
Disney Studios. He has been tutored in the art of playwrighting by
friends Jerome Lawrence, John Patrick, Tom Eyen, and has written
comedy with and for Dolly Parton, Joan Rivers and Lily Tomlin.
Once a leading gay porn star ("Track
Meet", "Stryker Force" ...) Dillard became known for his lengthy
affairs with two of Hollywood's wealthiest moguls, as recorded in his
Barricade memoir,
In The Flesh. Besides the ground-breaking Daedalus anthology of kinky
verse,
Between the Cracks, his most recent anthology,
A Day for a Lay: A Century of Gay Poetry, came out in 1999 on the
Barricade imprint.
His doggie musical,
Bark!, opens
September 17th, 2004, at the Coast Theatre in West Hollywood. Two
other musicals are slated to immediately follow, including The
Naked Poet, his biography in musical form.
Dillard is currently 49 years old, single, and lives
on Maui with six cats and a bevy of peafowl.
