Marsupial Sue Book and CD (2001) with Jack E. Davis, Illustrator
Young Sue really does not like being a kangaroo,
so she goes off to find something better. First she tries climbing the
trees like a koala, but that doesn’t work. Then she wades into the sea
like a platypus, but that’s no good either. Finally, Sue joins up with
some bouncy, jouncy wallabies…and discovers that being a kangaroo
isn’t so bad after all. ¶Using a jaunty waltz rhythm, John
Lithgow reassures children that they can be happy with who they are.
¶For listening or singing along, a CD of a John Lithgow performance of
MARSUPIAL SUE and an instrumental version is included with this book,
as is the score of the song.
-
Micawber Book and CD (2002)
with C. F. Payne, Illustrator
A squirrel named Micawber loves the pantings he sees
through the windows of a nearby art museum. One day he notices an
artist copying the old masters, and he decides to do the same – with
surprising results. ¶In their second collaboration, best-selling
author-illustrator team John Lithgow and C. F. Payne introduce
children to the world of art through the eyes – and paint-splattered
tail – of a highly creative squirrel.
-
The Remarkable Farkle McBride
(2001) with C. F. Payne,
Illustrator
Young Farkle McBride is a musical genius. He plays the
violin, the flute, the trombone, and the drums with incredible skill.
But he’s never satisfied. Something is missing. ¶In his first
book, John Lithgow introduces a memorable character, a fickle yet
lovable child prodigy who brings the sounds and rhythms of an
orchestra to sprawling visual life. With a double gatefold showing the
entire orchestra, this is the ultimate book for the music lover in all
of us.
-
I'm a Manatee (2003) with Ard Hoyt, Illustrator
I'M A MANATEE is the enchanting tale of a boy who
literally and figuratively gets swept away by his own dream - a dream
of becoming a manatee. New York Times best-selling author John
Lithgow's witty, lyrical texts, and Ard Hoyt's marvelously creative,
and slightly sardonic illustrations, combine to create a pleasurable
escapade for readers and dreamers alike. The book comes with a packed
with a CD of John Lithgow performing the song "I'm a Manatee", and the
musical score written by Bill Elliot.

included here are things John has done with his own kids. Each project

any down time at home or occasions like birthdays, holidays, or vacation. From
an Egyptian-themed birthday party to making sculpture with newspaper (pulpture),

Palooza! guarantees not to bore kids (or parents)!

for kids to keep themselves entertained and engrossed no matter where they
are. The materials included-4colored markers, card-stock paper and"puzzle
paper" perforated into puzzle pieces that can be broken apart, origami paper,
jeweled chips, and magnetic tape-may sound ordinary, but it's Lithgow's
extraordinary ideas for using them that make this kit a real winner!

Boredom Blasters: Travel Edition (2005)
Family car trips and plane rides need no longer be a
source of stress with this terrific Lithgow Palooza! kit aboard. The book
contains loads of ideas for creating fun projects and just plain silly
constructions by combining the enclosed materials-suction cups with hooks,
chenille sticks, wipe-off paper, wipe-away marker, an eraser, and lanyard
wire-in unique and highly entertaining ways.
A child's guide to the orchestra with a
difference. In this self-produced CD, John Lithgow performs with a
full-scale symphony orchestra. Several of the songs are originals that
he co-wrote with conductor Bill Elliott. Among them is "The Remarkable
Farkle McBride", the acclaimed symphonic version of the Simon &
Schuster best-selling children's book of the same name. Narrated and
sung by John, the colorful piece illustrates the individual
instruments of the orchestra and then brings them all together for a
rousing finish. Elsewhere the orchestra backs John with lively
waltzes, '30s Hollywood swing, thumping marches, and sizzling salsa.
Also featured are old favorites such as "Animal Crackers In My Soup",
Irving Berlin's "I'd Rather Lead A Band", and Leonard Bernstein's
"Wrong Note Rag", a duet that John sings with guest Bebe Neuwirth.
