Cancer in January—Capricorn
(2008)
Cancer in January—Capricorn in September deals
in its entirety with the loss of a father to lung cancer. The title depicts
the idea of such cancer devouring the person as the writing uses zodiac
resemblance of what each of them means. The three parts of the book deal
with denial and a sense of disorientation, shock and fear, and with
soul-searching and memory, respectively. Lora hopes to convey a new sense of
hope with his work showing a much different approach to tackling obstacles
but retaining a humorous yet humane sense of self. The book stands tall as
an idea of death being not the end, but an alternative reality. Always
remembering that things are more than what the eye can see.

The Glass Half Full
(2007)
Samuel Isaias Lora grew up in an Italian-Venezuelan
household. He was raised in Acarigua, Venezuela, and Woodbridge, Virginia.
An avid writer from an early age, Lora uses writing as self-therapy. He
focuses on freestyle poetry. He labels himself a hopeful romantic, since
there is nothing hopeless about love. The Glass Half Full reflects that idea
as he plays with diction, grammar, and the idea of unconditional love. He
targets the source of said love and interconnects love with religion or a
higher power. Lora’s writing is a way to look at love through different
eyes, experiencing the smaller pleasures and being positive while always
remembering that the glass is never half empty.

Papa—Can You Hear Me?: Short Stories
(2009)
Papa—Can You Hear Me? is a collection of humorous accounts dealing with
parenthood, including the hardships that each decision and each day bring
upon us. Divided in two parts, the book gives a glimpse into Lora’s early
life but also shines a light on the unusual perception of young boys
toward adulthood and respect. With each story we experience the abundance
of maturity and acknowledgment of love through a child’s mind’s eye.
Filled with tears, laughter and questioning, this compilation conveys the
point that life is all about moments: those that tear us apart, those that
fill us with joy, those that scar us for life and those that offer
redemption.
