General Information
  • 12-Step Cafe
Not specifically Gay, but have you ever known an addiction to discriminate?   "Make sure you bookmark this page now. Our hope is that you will find all the information about disease, dysfunction, and disorders and, more importantly, about the help that is available and the hope of healing through 'working the steps.'"

  • Living and Loving as a Clean and Sober Lesbian

  • Substance Abuse in the Gay and Lesbian Community
A brochure that covers such issues as why is addiction such a problem, suicide, and getting help,   Written by Dot Wojakowski as part of a Challenge Grant, produced and distributed by McGill Student Health Services.  "Alcoholism is a fatal chronic illness affecting the lives of 20 to 30% of the homosexual population (Ziebold & Mongeon, 1982). Studies have found that 35% of lesbians had a history of excessive drinking, compared to only 5% of the heterosexual women in the sample (Saghir, 1970; Lewis, 1982). Approximately 30% of lesbians and gay men are addicted to drugs (Rofes, 1983). The facts show that the homosexual community constitutes a high-risk population with regard to alcoholism and drug abuse."

  • The International Advisory Council for Homosexual Men and Women in Alcoholics Anonymous, Inc.
"I came to A.A. and got sober in November, 1972. My home group (the Gay Group, of Washington, D.C.) was then working with members of The Friday Night Group of Princeton, N.J., writing an A.A. oriented pamphlet called The Homosexual Alcoholic - A.A.'s Message of Hope to Gay Men and Women. I mention it at this juncture because the beginnings of IAC can be traced back to that pamphlet, although the full story has several different threads. I'll try to unravel a few of them here."
