Prominent Polish contemporary artist. Born in 1977 in Rzeszów, 1997-2002 studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw under professors Stanislaw Kortyka (painting) and Wojciech Kaniowski (architectural painting). He also attended professor Krystyńa Cybinska's pottery class. In 2002, Lukasz was awarded an honors degree. He works as an assistant lecturer in the painting and drawing studio of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw.
"His canvasses depict vases, bottles, and boxes arranged none too accidentally on the surfaces of large tables that delicately, yet clearly, reflect the color of the wall behind them, which is rendered in a similar tone. The vessels are made of clay, and in choosing this material the artist has taken on a task more challenging than that posed by glass or painted objects. The result he achieves is surprising, his clay vessels are saturated with delicate, bristling color that captures light naturally and renders it part and parcel of form. His paintings exhibit a brilliance and seem imbued with a special energy. (...) In talking about these paintings, I find it hard not to refer to the bottles of Morandi or the clay pots of Zurbaran. If these are Lukasz Huculak's masters, then he could not have chosen better." -- Julia Hartwig, from catalog for the Warsaw, Art Gallery exhibit, March 25 - March 29, 2003 |
