Decked (1992)
The daughter of a successful mystery writer and a P.I. with pizzazz, Regan
Reilly is attending her class reunion at St. Polycarp's England, when the
long-dead body of her former roommate turns up under the bushes. It's a
case Regan would love to solve, but a prior commitment puts her on a
transatlantic cruise.
She shouldn't have fretted. The clues to the crime are following her on
the Queen Guinevere. Here, on a ship awash with secret lovers, a fortune
hunter, a jewel thief and an assassin, Regan is sailing home—and into the
hands of a young girl's killer.
Snagged (1993)
Murder at a Miami panty-hose convention? It's a
perfect case for a sleuth with panache and great legs. Coming to trendy
South Beach for a wedding, Regan Reilly meets the bride's favorite
relative, the seventy-something Uncle Richie. He's also headed for a
legwear bash with his newest invention: run-less nylons that women and
rival manufacturers—would kill for!
After two attempts on Uncle Richie's life and the discovery of another
suspicious death, Regan finds herself in a rollicking Miami hotel filled
with suspects of every stripe—and knee-high deep in a caper that could
cost her her life...
Iced (1995)
Solving a crime at a ski resort can be all downhill!
P.I. Regan Reilly has high hopes for her Aspen vacation—such as meeting an
unmarried man! But a mystery soon has the chic detective snooping rather
than skiing. Million-dollar paintings have been disappearing, and an old
friend of Regan's—a folksy ex-con named Eben Bean—has vanished, too.
Everyone except Regan believes Eben has gone bad...again. Her hunt to find
him leads away from the tourist crowd into the founding families of this
former frontier town. She never expects to get in hot water with a wild
and woolly seventy-something lady who has a shocking secret she'd die to
keep. Or get in over her head trying to save a famous portrait a dangerous
criminal would kill to steal. Now the snow is falling, the plot is
thickening, and Regan may be learning a new winter sport—trying to catch a
killer while running for her life!
Twanged (1998)
Regan Reilly plans to spend her Fourth of July week
vacationing in the Hamptons at her parents' home and also with her best
friend, Kit, who has a share in a group house. A last-minute phone call,
however, casts Regan's trip in a new light. Brigid O'Neill, a rising
country star, has been getting frightening "love notes" and she hires
Regan as her bodyguard for a Fourth of July concert in Southhampton.
Brigid plans to play a fiddle given to her in Ireland and said to have
magic powers. She later learns the rest of its legend-whoever takes it out
of Ireland will have an accident or face death.
Brigid and her band are invited to stay at Chappy Tinka's oceanfront
compound. Tinka, heir to a thumbtack fortune, and Bettina, his ditzy wife,
are social climbers trying to get on the Hamptons "A" list. But the
Hamptons elite is not impressed by thumbtacks or the tacky castle the
Tinkas call home. Chappy's solution: build Chappy's Theatre by the Sea,
where he will produce plays starring himself and perform with Brigid's
magical fiddle. But first, he must steal it.
At Chappy's castle, Regan encounters a cast of characters including
Chappy's bumbling sidekick and accomplice, Duke; Bettina's live-in guru,
"Peace Man"; and a feng shui specialist obsessed with rearranging
furniture.
A guest found floating face-down in a pool at Chappy's welcoming party for
Brigid is only the first in a series of ominous incidents. As Brigid's
Fourth of July concert nears, it looks as if the cursed fiddle should be
shipped back to Ireland-Express Mail! It's Regan's job to hold the curse
at bay and fend off Brigid's pursuers.
Fleeced (2001)
Regan Reilly – the smart, saucy sleuth featured in
all of Carol Higgins Clark's bestsellers – is in New Yok attending a crime
conference organized by her celebrity-author mother...and enjoying time
with a new beau, Jack "no relation" Reilly. It's not long before trouble
finds her: a family friend, Thomas Pilsner – the president of the
Settlers' Club on Gramercy Park – desperately needs help. Two settlers are
dead, diamonds they were donating to the flagging club have vanished, and
Thomas is rapidly becoming the prime suspect on all counts. As sharp as
ever, Regan sets about solving the mystery of the disappearing diamonds
and dead donors in order to save Thomas' neck...before the real killer
finds them.
Jinxed (2002)
Savvy young Los Angeles P.I. Regan Reilly faces an
unusual challenge when she gets an urgent call from Lilac Weldon, owner --
with her two hippie brothers -- of the run-down California winery Altered
States. Lilac asks Regan to find her actress daughter, Whitney, aka
"Freshness," in time to attend the wedding of Lilac's wealthy aunt
Lucretia Standish, a 93-year-old silent film star. The Weldons have
learned from a secret source that each family member will receive a gift
of $2 million from Lucretia -- but only if they all attend.
Lucretia's bridegroom, a 46-year-old con man and former actor, knows he
must keep Whitney away; they have met before and she is wise to his game.
How Regan foils his plot makes for an exciting climax to this comic
suspense novel, filled with Carol Higgins Clark's inimitable characters.
Popped (2003)
L.A.-based private detective Regan Reilly heads to
Las Vegas to help out her old school chum Danny Madley. Danny is producing
a reality TV show featuring three married couples who have all suffered
the proverbial "Seven Year Itch," but are now vying for a chance to renew
their vows in a wedding-cake-shaped hot air balloon -- and win one million
dollars! But Danny has received an anonymous letter warning him to halt
production, and "accidents" start happening on the set. It's up to Regan
to find out what's lurking behind the scenes....After all, the show must
go on!
Popped takes us from the kitschy glamour of the Las Vegas casinos
and run-down hotels off the Strip to the world-famous Albuquerque Hot Air
Balloon Fiesta -- a funny, fast-paced romp!
Burned (2005)
L.A.-based private detective Regan Reilly gets a
call from her best gal pal, urging her to come to Hawaii for one last
girls' weekend before Regan ties the knot with Jack "no relation" Reilly,
and so she happily packs her bags.
At the Waikiki Waters Playground and Resort, the body of Dorinda Dawes,
the hotel's gossipy PR woman, washes ashore wearing a valuable lei that
once belonged to a Hawaiian princess and was stolen from a museum in
Honolulu thirty years ago.
The resort manager doesn't believe that Dorinda drowned accidentally and
persuades Regan to take on the case. The more she starts digging, the more
danger she is in. Can Regan find out what really happened before it's too
late for her and the other vacationers at the Waikiki Waters?
Hitched (2006)
Regan Reilly and her fiancé, Jack "no relation"
Reilly -- head of the NYPD Major Case Squad -- are getting married! Regan
had the perfect dress made by two young designers on Manhattan's Lower
East Side. Arriving at the bridal salon to pick up her gown, Regan
discovers the shop has been broken into, the designers bound and gagged,
and wedding dresses for four of the April brides (her dress included) are
missing. A fifth dress is in shreds on the floor. Even though it's a week
before her wedding, Regan gets on the case, and in the process she meets
an unusual mix of brides and grooms-to-be, or -- perhaps "not-to-be."
Over at One Police Plaza, Regan's bridegroom, Jack, is trying to solve a
perplexing series of bank robberies. The robber, nicknamed "The Drip" by
the NYPD because he always strikes during rainstorms, has been eluding the
police for months. Jack is determined to crack the case before his
upcoming nuptials.
Carol Higgins Clark fuses the two seemingly unrelated mysteries with an
ingenious twist, taking readers from the streets of New York City, to the
casinos of Atlantic City, and finally to that most popular wedding spot --
the one and only Las Vegas. She weaves a web of mystery around a charming,
humorous tale of five April brides and the trials and tribulations they
face planning their weddings.
Laced (2007)
Private Investigator Regan Reilly and her husband,
Jack, head of the Major Case Squad in New York City, have just gotten
hitched! They've headed to Hennessy Castle, a romantic spot in western
Ireland -- seemingly the perfect place to escape the world and the
criminals they deal with daily -- to begin their lives together. But
Hennessy Castle is hardly relaxing!
Their first afternoon in Ireland, Regan and Jack go out for a jog,
stopping at an old graveyard at the edge of town. The first tombstone they
see is marked REILLY. Turns out May Reilly, who died in 1822, was a
talented lacemaker who made an exquisite tablecloth for a banquet at
Hennessy Castle but was never paid. Legend has it that May has haunted the
castle ever since.
Awakened in the middle of the night, Regan spots a mysterious woman on the
back lawn of the castle. At the sound of Jack's voice, Regan turns her
head for a moment. When she turns back, the woman is gone. A moment later,
the hotel's fire alarm goes off.
In the ensuing melee, Regan and Jack meet a young American Irish couple,
Sheila and Brian O'Shea, who have started a business selling Irish
memorabilia -- but on this trip to Ireland their "business" is to pick up
paintings they've commissioned from a superstitious amateur artist who
doesn't realize the value of her work. The last thing these two online
entrepreneurs want is for Regan and Jack to figure out what they're up to.
The following morning, May Reilly's famous tablecloth is discovered
missing from the memorabilia room at the castle, and a note has been left
for Jack by an elderly couple who checked out immediately after the fire.
The "elderly" couple is, in fact, two international jewel thieves in
disguise, who refer to themselves as "Jane and John Doe." Taunting Jack,
who has been on their trail for more than a year, they claim
responsibility for the theft of May Reilly's tablecloth, knowing full well
that Jack won't be able to enjoy his honeymoon when he finds out they were
right under his nose and may still be in Ireland.
With the help of Regan's Irish cousin -- Galway resident Gerard Reilly --
Regan and Jack hunt for the thieves who have eluded law enforcement for
too long. Their search takes as many twists and turns as the winding
country roads of the Emerald Isle, as they travel from tiny villages to
the crowded pubs of Galway and back to Hennessy Castle -- where May Reilly
is not resting in her grave!
Filled with Irish history and lore, and a cast of quirky characters on
both sides of the Atlantic, Laced will take you on a journey that
will keep you laughing, turning pages, and maybe even believing in ghosts!
Deck the Halls (2000) with Mary Higgins Clark
Three days before Christmas, Regan Reilly, the dynamic
young sleuth featured in the novels of Carol Higgins Clark, accidentally
meets Alvirah Meehan, Mary Higgins Clark's famous lottery winner and amateur
detective, at a New Jersey dentist's office. That's where it all begins.
While Regan's mother, Nora, the famous mystery writer, is in the hospital
with a broken leg, her husband, Luke, and his chauffeur, Rosita, are
kidnapped and held for a million-dollar ransom. Together, Regan and Alvirah
track the case as the inept yet dangerous kidnappers make their demands
known. Meanwhile, Luke and Rosita are held captive on a houseboat on the
Hudson River and a fierce winter storm is gathering force.
He Sees You When You're Sleeping (2001) with Mary Higgins Clark
Sterling Brooks has been cooling his heels in the
Celestial Waiting Room for forty-six years, waiting for admission to heaven.
Finally, just days before Christmas, he's summoned before the Heavenly
Council and found unworthy; throughout his life he had been hopelessly
self-absorbed. To redeem himself, he is given the chance to go back to Earth
and find someone to help.
At New York's Rockefeller Center skating rink, Sterling encounters Marissa,
a heartbroken seven-year-old whose father and grandmother have been forced
into the Witness Protection Program; they had overheard two gangsters hatch
a sinister plot to collect money from a debtor. Able to travel through time
and space, Sterling devises a master plan to reunite little Marissa with her
family in time for Christmas. Along the way, he discovers within himself
what it takes to earn his wings.
The Christmas Thief (2004) with Mary Higgins Clark
The folks who picked a beautiful eighty-foot blue spruce from Stowe,
Vermont, to be Rockefeller Center's famous Christmas tree don't have a clue
that Packy Noonan, a scam artist just released from prison, hid priceless
diamonds in it more than twelve years ago. But when Packy learns that his
special tree will be heading to New York City the next morning, he knows he
has to act fast.
What Packy does not know is that Alvirah, everyone's favorite lottery winner
turned amateur sleuth, and savvy private investigator Regan Reilly are
visiting Stowe with their friend Opal, who lost all her lottery winnings in
Packy's scam. And just when they're supposed to head home, they learn that
the tree is missing . . . and that Opal has disappeared.
Santa Cruise (2006) with Mary Higgins Clark
Alvirah Meehan, the lottery winner turned amateur
sleuth; her husband, Willy; recently hitched private detective Regan Reilly
and her groom, Jack, head of the NYPD Major Case Squad; and Regan's parents,
Nora and Luke, are guests on the Royal Mermaid's maiden voyage, the
Santa Cruise. The cruise is Commodore Randolph Weed's gift to a select group
of people who in the last year "made the world a better place." What he
really wants is good publicity that will generate future bookings for his
struggling new venture. He also plans to scatter his beloved mother's ashes
at sea during this four-day odyssey in the Caribbean. What he doesn't know
is that his ne'er-do-well nephew, Eric, has smuggled two escaping criminals
on board.
Alvirah won the cruise at a charity auction and persuaded the Reillys to
accompany her and Willy. Other passengers include members of the Oklahoma
Readers and Writers group, who volunteer their time teaching people to read.
The group is planning a mystery seminar dedicated to a Ghost of Honor, the
late Left Hook Louie, a champion prizefighter turned bestselling author.
There are also ten men on board who had donated their time playing Santa
Claus during the holiday season as well as assorted other charitable folk,
all planning on a restful post-Christmas vacation.
The hoped-for tranquility soon vanishes. A terrified mystery fan swears she
has spotted the Ghost of Honor in the ship's chapel. Two Santa suits
disappear from a locked supply room. A storm develops, and in the infirmary
an attempt is made on the life of a seemingly feeble passenger. Back in
Miami, a TV reporter is turning the cruise into a public-relations
nightmare, thanks to her spies on the ship.
As the Royal Mermaid sails through troubled waters, Alvirah, Regan,
and Jack are uncovering the clues that lead them to dangerous criminals who
were not on the original guest list!
Filled with suspense and humor, Santa Cruise is a holiday mystery you
won't want to miss. Join the Clarks as they bring this unpredictable voyage
to a hair-raising and heartwarming conclusion and ring in the New Year
