Singing Bowls (1990)
What is a singing bowl ? Streams of refugees have
left Tibet since the Chinese invasion, bringing with them various ritual
objects now being sold in the West. This book explains the Himalayan bowls
- also known as Tibetan or Nepalese singing bowls - and the special sounds
they make, called sound massage. The author, Eva Rudy Jansen, discusses
the meeting between East and West, singing bowls, sacrificial dishes, how
the bowls work, synchronization and inner massage,
shamanism
and
brainwaves, and practical instruction for working with these sounds.
Although the short scope of this book won't provide absolute answers to
all the questions you may have about the bowls, it does provide practical
information about using them as well as showing you how to go about
finding the bowl which fits to you. The mysteries explained here are a
wonderful overview if you want to open your heart and mind to the
therapeutic value of this phenomena.
The Book of Buddhas: Ritual Symbolism Used on Buddhist Statuary and Ritual Objects (1993)
Modern students who are drawn to the study and
practice of Buddhism are not always able to easily learn the symbolic
meaning of the various types of statuary connected to the study of this
philosophy.
In Buddhism, every symbol has a meaning, and this book explores the
symbolism of the ritual objects that are used on statues and painting, as
well as explaining the ritual meaning of the objects associated with
Buddhism.
This book serves as an introduction for Western students. it is not a
comprehensive and exhausting study, but provides an introduction to
Buddhism itself, as well as a generous survey of the most common figures
and symbols. The author examines the Three Mysteries, mudras, asanas,
Manushri Buddhas, Transcendental Buddhas, Adibuddha, Tara, Manjushri and
Avalokiteshvara. Aslo discussed is Yidams, Gods and goddesses, dakinis and
yoginis, and Laughing Buddha.
The Book of Hindu Imagery: Gods, Manifestations and Their Meaning (1993)
with Tony Langham, Translator
Hinduism is more than a
religion; it is a way of
life that has developed over approximately five millennia. Its rich and
multicultured history, which has no equivalent among the great religions
of the world, has made the structure of its mythical and philosophical
principles into a highly differentiated maze, of which total knowledge is
a practical impossibility.
This volume cannot offer a complete survey of the meaning of Hinduism, but
Eva Rudy Jansen does provide an extensive compilation of important deities
and their divine manifestations, so that modern students can understand
the significance of the Hindu pantheon.
To facilitate easy recognition, a survey of ritual gestures, postures,
attires and attributes as well as an index are included. Over 100
illustrations and several photographs make this book an important
reference, both to the student of Hindu art and the interested amateur.
