"Gillian Rodger is Assistant Professor of
Musicology and Ethnomusicology at the University of
Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of
Pittsburgh and worked in academic publishing at Garland and
Routledge, and taught at University of Michigan before joining
the UWM faculty. Her research interests revolve around musical
theater of the United States. Dr. Rodger is currently completing
a book that examines the emergence of variety entertainment (the
form that preceded vaudeville) and working-class culture in the
United States in the mid-19th century. She has published several
articles on the Scottish singer Annie Lennox, and has
contributed a number of articles to the on-line encyclopedia,
GLBTQ.com." --
