Barbra: The Sixties (Part One) (2006)
Matt Howe ("The Barbra
Archives" website) has created a handsome guide to Barbra's early
career. Focusing on Barbra's early career in the 60s, readers will find
fascinating information on her early performances in clubs like the Bon Soir
and the hungry i. You'll find the "trunk" songs from Funny Girl
(Broadway); a comparison of the Broadway versus film version of Funny
Girl; the "lost" shows from PM East; Barbra's demos and
unreleased songs; Matt's usual excellent photo selection; and finally, a
Magazine and Newspaper list (1960-1964) detailing most major (and some
minor) articles that were written about Barbra. Barbra: The Sixties (Part
One) is a handsome, professionally printed book, saddle-stitched [i.e.
center-stapled like a magazine] and printed on high-quality paper. Matt did
the layout himself, so you can expect the usual high-quality graphic design
that you see on his website.
